This week Substack announced that users without publications will be able to post content and gain subscribers. It's a small feature change but a big sign of where the platform is heading as it slowly becomes more of a social network. And there are new features from LinkedIn and a look at how journalists are increasingly going independent.

Substack members can now publish content and get paid or free subscribers from their Substack profile without needing to create a publication. It's a step that moves the platform closer to being a social network.

After launching sponsored newsletters for company pages last month, LinkedIn is now expanding this to newsletters created by other users in the app.
